Yellowing Gloss: The Problem and The Solution

If I had a pound for every time I have been asked this I would be a rich man by now! Why does brilliant white gloss yellow within weeks, especially Dulux being the leading brand.

The Problem.

In 2010 the European Union forced all companies to reduce the amount of VOCs (Volitle Organic Compounds) in all oil-based paints.
To reduce the VOCs they had to reduce the solvents and replace it with drying oils and this is what makes it yellow.

The solution.

Don’t use gloss. Use a good trade Satinwood instead, Dulux Satinwood is by far the best in my opinion and much easier to apply than gloss.
I would also say it is a better finish than gloss but more importantly it doesn’t yellow, it is also self undercoating so it covers great and a little easier to apply for all you DIY enthusiasts out there.
There is also Dulux Diamond Satinwood that is 10 times tougher for you who wish to spend a little more money.

Hopefully this will help some people save some time and money.

Thanks for reading.
