Now I’m not saying brands like Johnstones and Leyland are bad paints and are on par with each other in terms of quality. If it is a trade paint it is normally better than a retail, they are cheaper than the big brands and they do the job, so if your trying to keep your costs down these two brands could be the brand for you.
Johnstones Covaplus vinyl matt is a good paint for the money covers really well and if your looking for something a bit more durable you could go for Johnstones durable matt which is a washable paint, great if you have kids or pets.
Crown is one of the leading brand and there is Crown’s Clean Extreme paint if you are looking for a washable paint. Crown’s heritage paints are great, they cover really well and will leave a solid finish but for me it’s creeping into the Dulux and Farrow & Ball price range and they are in my opinion the best two on the market.
Farrow & Ball make exceptional paints and you can’t fault them, they may be expensive but you pay for what you get and the wallpaper range is also second to none.
Now for my No1 emulsion without a shadow of a doubt is Dulux Diamond Matt (only in my opinion).
Dulux has greater colour range than its rivals where other brands need to mix a red and blue to make a purple to go into a mix Dulux actually has a purple colour mix so they can make so many more shades than there competitors.
The Dulux Diamond Matt coverage is amazing and it is a scrubbable paint so you don’t have to worry about a few dirty marks from the pets, kids and dirty work hands just give it a little wipe.
It is expensive but you will get a long time from it and if you aren’t to fussed for a washable paint the Dulux Vinyl Matt is a great paint and a little cheaper then cheaper again is the Dulux super matt.
Diamond matt and super matt only come in light base and medium base so colours are slightly limited that’s the only draw backs with these two paints.
The most important thing when buying any paint is buy a good trade paint and not a retail paint, the difference between the two are massive and I have blogged about this before and you don’t need to have a trade account to use a trade centre.
